Thanura Elvitigala received his secondary education from Royal College, Colombo, Sri Lanka from 1987-1995. He entered University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka in 1997 and completed his B. Sc. in Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering in 2002. From 2002-2004, he worked as a Software Engineer at Millennium Information Technologies, a leading software company in Sri Lanka.

In 2004, he started his graduate studies in the Department of Electrical and Systems Engineering in Washington University in St Louis, MO, USA. He received his MS in Electrical Engineering in 2006. At present he is a PhD candidate in Systems Science and Mathematics.

His current research interests include Systems Biology, Dynamic modeling of large scale systems, Gene Regulatory Networks,etc
